Drone: It can be defined as a pilotless aircraft directed by remote control. It can also be called as Aerial Robot

Types of drone/Aerial Robots:

  1. Multirotors : A rotorcraft with more than two lift generating rotors. some of the examples include bicopters(2 rotor), tricopters(3 rotor), Quadcopters(4 rotors), Hexacopters(6 rotors) and Octacopters(8 rotors)

  2. Winged : It's design is same like an airplane but acts as a drone.

  3. Hybrid : Hybrid type of drone is a combination of multirotor and winged type.

WORKING

Let us now understand a little bit about its working( mainly quadcopter drone as it's the one which is mostly being used )

Quadcopter is nothing but four motors, usually placed in a square shape. diagonal rotors rotate in same direction. Two are used for front and two are used for rear operation.

Path planning of the route is done by using autonomous environment. The algorithms like A*, dijkstra are used for path planning.

Types of motions -

Accelerate

Roll

Pitch

Yaw

COMPONENTS NEEDED TO MAKE A QUADCOPTER-

• Frame - outer body is to be chosen here.

• Propellers - choose propellers of either 2, 3 or 4 blades.

• Motors - Best choice recommended from Brushed DC or Brushless DC.

• Motor Drivers - Brushed DC motor drivers or Brushless DC motor drivers or Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC).

• Flight Controller - A computer capable of running complex algorithms to control the aircraft. Examples include pixhawk, ardupilot, altoflight and arduino UNO.

• Remote Controller (RC) and receiver - Any long frequency signal remote controller device can be used. Also, we can design mobile app to control the drone.

• GNSS receiver - Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) is required for communication purpose.

• Battery - According to your requirement you can select battery of particular range.

• Software/Firmware for flight controller - Autopilot px4, ardupilot, Betaflight and INAV
